Late Georgian 10K and Iron Cameo Ring of Louis I, Grand Duke of Hesse
This unique antique ring is from the late Georgian era, likely created in Eastern Europe. It features 10k yellow gold and an iron carved cameo of Grossherzog Ludwig I Von Hessen, otherwise known as Louis I, Grand Duke of Hesse.
Based on the provenance documents which will be included along with the ring, it was originally given to soldiers for their efforts during the Napoleonic Wars, which dates it back to the early 1800s. Louis I was an ally of Napoleon. The ring was gifted in 1947 from a German to an American soldier, as they worked to mend relations following World War II. The documents include a letter written in English, a postcard written in German, and an additional letter which appears to be written in Slovak.
This ring is currently a US size 11.75 and weighs 6.7 grams.
With the age of this ring, wear should be expected. It appears to have been resized, is slightly out of round, and features wear along the bezel and in the setting. Please note that the estate items are pre-owned. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above.
